The 1st Annual BEM LimHop Awards were held on the 30th November 2013 at the Library Auditorium in the City of Polokwane.
About: The BEM LimHop Awards (BLHA) are an annual Hip-hop award ceremony,run by the RAYMOND SHIHAWU FOUNDATION (RSF). The award ceremony is held in November. Contenders are judged on performances and achievements made in the previous year between November the previous year and May the following year. The live ceremony is held at the Library Auditorium in Polokwane and recorded for web and dvd release. The ceremony boasts a number of appearances, live performances by the nominees and guest artists.
Judging process
Most categories are judged by a panel of unpaid, independent judges drawn from the broadcast and print media, as well as freelance writers, hip hop activists whom have been involved in the growth of the culture. Entries are submitted by artists/ record labels both majors and independent. The judging community changes every year introducing new ideas for the purpose of improving and making sure the LHHAS meet the expected out comes in terms of keeping the growth of hip hop evident.
THE BOARD
The board consists of 5 people whom are all industry gurus. The role of the advisory board serves to guide the awards in terms of fairness and judging for the awards.
